Going back to the start and bumping the first up against the latest efforts to potentially wreck a childhood, grab some cash or maybe . . . just maybe . . . improve upon the original concept (ducks to avoid the comments).

This is the first in a series of looks at classics vs. the big bad studio executives latest shiney toy. We will dive into classics and the technology upgrades or gutting realizations that neither of the flicks are good at all. Take the picks out for a spin and discuss in the comments your thoughts as we take a trip into The Recycle Bin.

Up first, The Jungle Book. I'm going out on a limb and saying I prefer the newer version. I know. I know. However, emotional weight is one of the measures for me, and Jon Favreau's version delivers more of that. The initial use of the technology made for a delightful ride back to the remaining of 1967's adaptation. Heading back to the original, often it wins out. However, this time around, I have to give the nod to the updated version from an entertainment perspective. Now as for The Lion King . . . Stay tuned.
